THIS IS A SOLO

Intermission

The solo Intermission came out of the desire investigate a working procedure in response to the question 'How can I speak through the other and how can the other speak through what I am proposing?' that involved working with a medium that I am not so familiar with, video also involving the dichotomy between amateur and professional, since I choose to engage in a joint-creation with a professional video artist.
The first step was to establish the conditions through which the work would develop and taking into account the specificity of the medium, a 'machinic' like procedure seemed to be appropriate.
The description of the procedure reads as follow:
The initiator, joint-creator A, sends the first motto in form of a sentence based on what I perceived at that moment to be an overarching issue of the project in relation to dealing with different frames of attention: 'Placing, displacing, Misplacing'.
The joint-creator B, Ivo, does the first 1 minute and 2 second video as a response to the motto plus he writes another short sentence that I called intertittle (in reference to the text present in between frames in silent films) and send it to joint-creator A by email.
The procedure repeats until each joint-creator did five videos with the duration of one minute two second each.
None of the joint-creators ever sees or talks about the videos that are being made until the editing.
The communication process is mediated exclusively through the intertitles.
When the process comes to an end, joint-creators get together for a editing session in which the videos and the intertitles are put together in a sequence according to the order of the making.
